Knackly Pricing and What Knackly Costs Compared With Gavel

Knackly publishes its prices. Starter is $250 a month with 4 users, Done For You is $500 with 4 users and someone at Knackly building your templates, and Professional is $1,000 with 12 users and API access. Paid yearly, they come to $209, $417 and $834 a month. Extra users are $40 a month on the first two plans and $50 on Professional, so your bill is decided by headcount and by whether you need the API.

Templates fill in blanks. The case file has the facts

See an agent draft from the matter instead of a questionnaire

A template tool needs somebody to answer the interview. CaseAgent reads the filings, records and letters already in the matter and drafts from them, with each fact cited to its page. One price for the whole firm. Pick a sample file and watch it work.

The case files above are composed for the demo, so no client data is involved. Drafts are first-pass work product for attorney review, not legal advice.

Every figure here comes from two pages we read on October 19, 2026: knackly.io/pricing and the Knackly Terms of Service. The Gavel numbers come from gavel.io/pricing, read on October 14, 2026, and covered in full on our Gavel page. We build CaseAgent, which drafts from the case file rather than from templates, so we do not sell against either of them on their own ground.

How much does Knackly cost?

Knackly costs $250 a month on Starter, $500 on Done For You and $1,000 on Professional, or $209, $417 and $834 a month if you pay for the year. Starter and Done For You include 4 users, Professional includes 12. There is no setup fee. What separates the plans is who builds the templates, how many new clients you add a month, and API access.

Knackly plans and prices: Starter, Done For You and Professional, monthly and yearly
Plan Monthly Yearly, per month Billed per year Users included Extra user New records a month
Starter$250$209$2,5084$40 a month or $400 a year400
Done For You$500$417$5,0044$40 a month or $400 a year400
Professional$1,000$834$10,00812$50 a month or $500 a year600

From knackly.io/pricing, October 19, 2026. Billed per year is the printed monthly figure times twelve.

Starter is the self service plan. It includes client facing questionnaires, the guided interview, PDF document automation, the Clio, Zapier and OneDrive integrations, one 1:1 expert consultation a month, and a bonus line that reads "We'll automate your first document for you." Done For You keeps the same limits and adds "Fully managed document automation (we do it for you - 3 hours a month)." Professional drops the consultation and the managed hours from its feature list and adds "Robust API access for system integration" and custom client questionnaires.

If you are coming off HotDocs, the pricing FAQ says Knackly has an automated tool that converts HotDocs templates, with no extra line for it on the price card. That matters if you are weighing HotDocs alternatives, because rebuilding a large template library by hand is usually the biggest cost of switching, larger than a year of any plan here.

What the yearly discount really saves

The page sells yearly billing as "2 Months Free". Ten months of Starter at $250 is $2,500, or $208.33 a month. Knackly prints $209, so a full year costs $2,508. Done For You comes to $5,004 instead of $5,000, and Professional to $10,008 instead of $10,000. Eight dollars is not going to change anyone's decision, but it does tell you the yearly prices were rounded up, so check the invoice total rather than the monthly figure when you approve the spend.

Extra users follow the promise exactly: $400 a year against $480 at the monthly rate. The Done For You service hours do slightly better than the discount. The monthly plan includes 3 hours a month, which is 36 hours over a year, while the yearly plan says "40 hours a year." A firm that wants Knackly's team to build most of its templates gets four more hours of that work by paying up front, on top of saving $996.

Is Knackly priced per user?

Partly. Each plan includes a block of users and you pay for the whole block even if one person logs in. After that, users cost $40 a month on Starter and Done For You and $50 on Professional. The table runs the numbers for common team sizes.

What Knackly costs a year by number of users, monthly and yearly billing
Users Cheapest plan that fits Billed monthly, per year Billed yearly
1Starter (4 seats paid)$3,000$2,508
4Starter$3,000$2,508
6Starter + 2 users$3,960$3,308
10Starter + 6 users$5,880$4,908
12Starter + 8 users (Professional $12,000 or $10,008)$6,840$5,708
20Starter + 16 users (Professional + 8 users $16,800 or $14,008)$10,680$8,908

Calculated from the published rates. Volume discounts, if any, are not printed and not included.

Two things fall out of that. First, Professional is never the cheaper way to add people. At 12 users it costs $4,300 a year more than Starter with eight added users. You buy it for the API and for the higher limit on new clients, not for seats. Second, the 400 new records a month on Starter and Done For You is the limit most likely to push you up. A high volume estate planning practice that runs seminars, or an immigration practice opening many files a month, should count new clients before it counts staff.

Is Gavel cheaper than Knackly?

For one person working alone, yes. Gavel Lite is $99 a month, or $83 billed yearly, against $250 for Knackly Starter. For a team it flips, because Gavel counts template builders and Knackly counts users four to a plan. Gavel Lite and Standard include one builder and cannot add another, so a second builder means Gavel Pro at $350 a month, or $290 yearly, with 2 builders and 3 organizational users. On Pro, extra builders cost $50 a month and extra organizational users $35. Our Gavel pricing page has the full rate card and the plan history.

Gavel vs Knackly cost per year on yearly billing by team shape

1 lawyer who buildsLite$996Starter$2,508
2 builders, 2 staffPro$3,480Starter$2,508
2 builders, 3 staffPro$3,480Starter + 1 user$2,908
3 builders, 6 staffPro + 1 builder + 3 users$5,340Starter + 5 users$4,508

Yearly billing on both. Gavel seat add-ons at the monthly rate its FAQ prints. Gavel from gavel.io/pricing on October 14, 2026, Knackly from knackly.io/pricing on October 19, 2026.

Price is not the whole comparison. Gavel puts Stripe payments, DocuSign and white label branding on its Pro plan, which suits a firm selling documents to clients online. Knackly puts the Clio integration and a monthly expert session on its entry plan, and has the HotDocs converter. If you are still building a shortlist, our guide to the best legal document automation software covers the wider field, including HotDocs and Clio Draft.

What the terms say about cancelling

The pricing page and the Terms of Service do not say quite the same thing. The pricing FAQ says "All plans are month to month with no contracts, no setup fees, and no hidden gimmicks. Cancel anytime," and "There are no long-term contracts required." The Terms say that at the end of each billing cycle "your Subscription will automatically renew under the exact same conditions unless you cancel it," and that "Cancelations by the customer need to occur 20 days prior to the next subscription renewal date."

Read together, a monthly plan really is month to month, as long as you cancel 20 days before the next charge. A yearly plan is a twelve month commitment billed "on the anniversary date," and it renews unless you cancel 20 days before that date. Refunds are not promised: "Certain refund requests for Subscriptions may be considered by Knackly, LLC on a case-by-case basis." Knackly can also change fees "at any time," effective at the end of your current billing cycle, after "reasonable prior notice."

The practical step is to put the renewal date minus 20 days in the firm calendar on the day you sign. Firms that already track vendor renewals in contract management software should add Knackly there with the notice date, not the renewal date, as the trigger. Payment is by Visa, MasterCard or American Express, and annual plans can also pay by ACH, which some firms prefer for an invoice this size.

Why directory listings show different Knackly prices

If you searched before landing here, you may have seen Knackly "starting at $75." TrustRadius lists Basic at $75 a month for 3 users, Plus at $150 with 3 users and Professional at $300 with 5 users. None of that matches the current pricing page, where the cheapest plan is $250 with 4 users. A firm that budgeted from the directory would be off by more than three times on the entry plan. We could not establish when those older prices were current, so treat any figure that is not on knackly.io as history, and ask for the quote in writing.

Which Knackly plan is right for a small law firm?

  • Solo lawyer who builds their own forms. Starter works, but you pay for four seats you will not use. Compare Gavel Lite first.
  • Two to four people, someone in house can build templates. Starter, billed yearly, at $2,508. This is where Knackly is strongest on price.
  • Nobody has time to build templates. Done For You. At $5,004 a year it buys 40 hours of Knackly's team building them, which is the real product on that plan.
  • You need Knackly to talk to an internal system. Professional, for the API. Do not buy it for seats.
  • More than 400 new clients a month. Professional, for the 600 record limit, or ask Knackly what happens past the cap before you sign.

Estate planning firms are the core Knackly buyer, and template automation is only one part of that practice. For the rest, such as client portals, trust administration and deadlines, see our page on estate planning software for attorneys.

Where CaseAgent fits next to a template tool

Knackly and Gavel are good at one job: turning interview answers into a finished document. Somebody still has to know the answers. In litigation and in any matter where the facts sit in records, letters and filings, that knowledge is the expensive part. CaseAgent reads what is already in the matter and drafts letters, pleadings and discovery responses from it, with each fact cited back to the page it came from, and it keeps court deadlines current.

It is priced per firm, not per user: Solo $149 a month for 1 user, Firm $399 for up to 5 users and Practice $899 for up to 15, or $74, $199 and $449 a month billed yearly. A five person firm pays the same $199 a month on CaseAgent whether one person drafts or all five do. See CaseAgent pricing for what each plan includes, and our page on legal document automation software for how drafting from the file compares with drafting from a template.

Knackly pricing, other questions

How much does Knackly cost?

Knackly costs $250 a month for Starter, $500 for Done For You and $1,000 for Professional on monthly billing, or $209, $417 and $834 a month billed yearly. Starter and Done For You include 4 users and add users at $40 a month. Professional includes 12 users and adds them at $50 a month.

Does Knackly have a free trial?

The pricing page lists no free plan and no free trial. It offers a demo before you commit, and Starter comes with a bonus where Knackly automates your first document for you. The lowest real cost of trying it is one month of Starter at $250, cancelled at least 20 days before it renews.

Is Knackly priced per user?

Partly. Each plan includes a block of users, 4 on Starter and Done For You and 12 on Professional, and you pay for that block even with one person. Users beyond it cost $40 a month ($400 a year) on Starter and Done For You, and $50 a month ($500 a year) on Professional.

Is Gavel cheaper than Knackly?

For one person, yes. Gavel Lite is $996 a year billed yearly against $2,508 for Knackly Starter. Once a firm has two template builders and two or more staff using the forms, Knackly is cheaper: Starter with 4 users is $2,508 a year while Gavel Pro starts at $3,480.

Can I cancel Knackly anytime?

The pricing FAQ says cancel anytime, but the Terms of Service say subscriptions renew automatically and that cancellations "need to occur 20 days prior to the next subscription renewal date." Refunds are case by case. On a yearly plan that means you commit for 12 months and must cancel 20 days before the anniversary.

Does Knackly integrate with Clio?

Yes. The Starter and Done For You plans list integrations with Clio, Zapier and OneDrive, and the pricing FAQ adds Microsoft Word and SharePoint. Professional adds API access for connecting Knackly to your own internal systems, which is the main reason to buy that plan rather than adding users to Starter.

Draft from the file, not from a blank interview

An agent inside every matter reads what arrives, drafts with citations and keeps the deadlines. One price for the firm.
