Every Bill4Time figure here comes from bill4time.com: the live pricing page, the payments page, the terms of service and refund policy, and Wayback Machine captures of its pricing pages going back to 2009. We build CaseAgent, which is not a billing system, so where we compare Bill4Time with other billing tools we use each vendor's own printed price.
How much does Bill4Time cost per user?
Bill4Time sells four plans, all priced per user a month with no stated minimum. Two are for professional services firms in general and two are for law firms. Annual billing is the price on display; monthly costs $10 more a user on every plan.
| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Five users for a year, annual |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time and Billing | $39 | $49 | $2,340 |
| Time and Billing Enterprise | $69 | $79 | $4,140 |
| Legal Pro | $59 | $69 | $3,540 |
| Legal Enterprise | $89 | $99 | $5,340 |
The page promises you can "save up to 25%" with yearly billing. On the printed numbers the biggest saving is 20 percent, on Time and Billing ($39 against $49), and it shrinks to about 10 percent on Legal Enterprise. The 14 day trial needs no card on any plan.
What each Bill4Time plan includes
The base Time and Billing plan is broader than its name. It includes time and expense tracking, invoicing with templates, a client portal, payment processing, QuickBooks integration, document management, calendar sync and the mobile app. Time and Billing Enterprise adds custom data fields, advanced reports, an advanced data import and a dedicated account manager.
Legal Pro is the plan most small firms need, because it is where trust accounting starts. It adds the trust ledger, a conflict checker, contingency billing, task workflows, invoice cover letters, UTBMS codes, LEDES export and Box and NetDocuments integration. Legal Enterprise adds custom LEDES export, custom fields, an advanced import and a dedicated success specialist. Insurance defense firms that bill carriers with their own LEDES rules are the buyers it is built for.
However the client ledgers are kept, the trust and operating bank accounts still have to be reconciled against the bank statement every month. Firms that still do that by hand against PDF statements can hand the matching to dedicated bank reconciliation software and keep Bill4Time for the client side.
Two things are not on the price list at all: an API, and CRM or website add-ons. Bill4Time has a legal CRM feature page with no price on it, so ask whether it is included before you assume it is. The 2025 version of the pricing page said the subscription "includes everything" and that large firms get volume pricing; that wording is gone from the 2026 page.
The Bill4Time price increase in February 2026
Bill4Time held one price list for seven years. From January 2019 to January 2026, Legal Pro was $49 a user a month, or $45 billed annually, and Legal Enterprise was $89 or $80. Between the January 24 and February 10, 2026 captures of the pricing page, the whole ladder moved.
| Period | Legal plans, per month | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| 2009 to 2012 | Lite $19.99, Pro $39.99 a user | One price list for everyone, a free single user plan, 30 day trial |
| 2013 to 2014 | Solo $19.99, Pro $39.99, Enterprise $99.99, one user included, extra users $9.99 | First separate legal pricing |
| 2015 to 2017 | Solo $30, Pro $50, Enterprise $100, one user included, extra users $20 to $25 | Alpine Investors backs Bill4Time, September 2017 |
| 2019 to January 2026 | Legal Pro $49 ($45 yearly), Legal Enterprise $89 ($80) | Per user pricing; Time and Billing $29 ($27) |
| February 2026 on | Legal Pro $69 ($59 yearly), Legal Enterprise $99 ($89) | Time and Billing $49 ($39); Enterprise $79 ($69) |
On annual billing the increase was 31 percent for Legal Pro and 44 percent for Time and Billing. That is why the numbers you find disagree. Most directories have caught up, but some search snippets and ITQlick still show $29, $49 and $89, Capterra labels the annual rates "per year" when they are per month, and one price tracker dates the change to September 2026, which is only when it noticed.
For a firm that signed in 2025 at $45, the renewal is the moment it shows up. Under section 8 of the terms, the renewal is billed at the prior rate unless Bill4Time gives at least 14 days written notice of an increase, which can come by email.
What the Bill4Time terms say about renewal, refunds and leaving
| Section | What it says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 7, fees | Payments are noncancelable and nonrefundable; you pay for every license for the whole term, used or not; fees can change on 14 days notice by email | Start monthly until the team is trained |
| 7, confidentiality | Pricing terms are confidential | Expect any discount to stay off the record |
| 8, renewal | Renews automatically each anniversary; billing disputes within 10 days of the invoice | Check the first invoice after renewal at once |
| 9, late payment | 1 percent a month interest, a reconnection fee with no stated amount, data may be deleted after 30 days delinquent | Keep a current card on file |
| 10, cancelling | Cancel or cut licenses only at the end of the term, in writing, at least 5 business days before the next invoice | Calendar the date a week before renewal |
| 4 and 10, your data | A data file if you ask at the time you terminate; section 4 says within 14 days, section 10 says 30 | Ask for the export in the cancellation email itself |
| 22, law | Washington law, courts in Seattle; no arbitration clause | Note it before a large annual prepay |
The data clause is the one that costs firms. Both versions require you to request the file when you terminate, so a cancellation sent without that request can leave you with nothing to import into the next system.
Bill4Time vs PracticePanther, TimeSolv and other billing tools on price
| Software | Per user a month, yearly | Trust accounting | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bill4Time | $39 / $69 / $59 / $89 | Legal plans only | Time, billing and LEDES without full case management |
| PracticePanther | $49 / $69 / $89 / $114 | Yes | Billing plus matters; same parent company as Bill4Time |
| TimeSolv | Quote; last list $47 to $53 for Legal | Legal plan | The closest like for like, without a printed price |
| CosmoLex | $49 / $99 / $129 | Yes | A general ledger instead of QuickBooks |
| MyCase | $50 / $100 / $130 | Yes | All in one practice management |

Bill4Time and PracticePanther are both owned by Paradigm, so a firm comparing them is choosing between two products from one company. At $59 Legal Pro still undercuts PracticePanther Business at $89 for billing with trust. The gap is matters, documents and intake, which PracticePanther includes. If billing is the whole requirement, our best legal billing software for small law firms roundup and the legal billing software comparison cover LEDES and trust rules in more depth.
Payment processing is the other line on the bill. Bill4Time Payments charges 2.95 percent on all cards with no per transaction fee and 1 percent on eCheck, with no monthly fee. On a $1,500 invoice paid by card that is $44.25, against $45.15 at LawPay's printed 2.99 percent plus 30 cents.
Bill4Time pricing, other questions
Did Bill4Time raise its prices in 2026?
Yes. Between January 24 and February 10, 2026 Bill4Time replaced a price list it had kept since 2019. Legal Pro went from $49 to $69 a user billed monthly (41 percent) and from $45 to $59 annually; Time and Billing went from $29 to $49 monthly. Several price trackers still show the old $29, $49 and $89 figures.
Does Bill4Time have a free trial?
Yes. Bill4Time offers a 14 day free trial on every plan with no credit card. Adding a card during the trial activates the paid account. Some directory listings still say 30 days, which was the trial length from 2009 to around 2017. Use the trial to run one real billing cycle, including a trust transfer and a LEDES file if you need them.
Which Bill4Time plan includes trust accounting?
Only the two legal plans. Legal Pro at $59 a user a month billed annually adds trust accounting, conflict checking, contingency billing, UTBMS codes and LEDES export to the Time and Billing features. Legal Enterprise at $89 adds custom LEDES export, custom data fields and a dedicated success specialist. Time and Billing plans have no trust ledger.
Can I get a refund from Bill4Time?
No. Section 7 of the Bill4Time terms says all payment obligations are noncancelable and amounts paid are nonrefundable, and the refund policy confirms an annual plan cancelled mid term is not refunded. Monthly plans stop at the end of the paid month. Cancellation is by phone or email to support, not in the app.
What does Bill4Time charge for payment processing?
Bill4Time Payments charges 2.95 percent on all cards with no per transaction fee and 1 percent on eCheck, with no monthly or setup fee, though card network fees may apply. Payments are processed by Headnote, an affiliate. LawPay, for comparison, prints 2.99 percent plus 30 cents on Visa, Mastercard and Discover.
Who owns Bill4Time?
Bill4Time is owned by Paradigm, formerly ASG LegalTech, which also owns PracticePanther, MerusCase and the Headnote payments business. Alpine Investors backed Bill4Time in September 2017 and Francisco Partners invested in Paradigm in 2021. Bill4Time is not part of ProfitSolv, which owns TimeSolv, Rocket Matter, Tabs3 and CosmoLex.
A billing system makes sure the hours you record get invoiced. It does nothing about the hours spent reading a new production or rebuilding a timeline, which most firms write down or never record. That is the work CaseAgent does inside the case, with the time tracking and billing left to whichever tool you choose.
