Every Lawcus figure below comes from lawcus.com: the live pricing page and its feature matrix, the payments page, the Terms and Conditions, and 46 Wayback Machine captures of the pricing page from 2015 on. Where a review site prints a number Lawcus does not, we say so. We build CaseAgent, which competes for some of the same firms, so the comparison at the end uses each vendor's own published price.
How much does Lawcus cost?
Lawcus prices per user, with a $10 per user discount for paying a year up front. The annual view is the default on its pricing page, which is why the $39 figure is the one most people see first. Every plan button says "Get Quote", even the three with a printed price, so expect a sales conversation either way.
| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Five users for a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $39 per user a month | $49 | $2,340 annual, $2,940 monthly |
| Growth | $59 per user a month | $69 | $3,540 annual, $4,140 monthly |
| Elite | $79 per user a month | $89 | $4,740 annual, $5,340 monthly |
| Enterprise | Quote | Quote | Minimum 10 users |
Storage is unlimited on every plan, and so are trust accounting, retainers, online payments, document templates, legal calendaring and the Gmail and Outlook sync. Monthly billing is a real option here, not a penalty box: the gap is $120 per user a year, the same spread PracticePanther and CosmoLex charge.
Which Lawcus plan do you actually need?
The headline price is Essential, but the features that sell Lawcus to a growing firm sit higher up. Read the matrix by the feature you would be upset to lose.
| Feature | First plan that includes it | Lowest annual price |
|---|---|---|
| Case management, billing, trust accounting | Essential | $39 |
| Client portal | Growth | $59 |
| QuickBooks and Xero integration | Growth | $59 |
| Custom invoice templates, LEDES and UTBMS codes | Growth | $59 |
| Nova AI, custom fields, appointment scheduler | Growth | $59 |
| Intake forms and lead management | Elite | $79 |
| Workflow automation (100 workflows) | Elite | $79 |
| Zapier, API access, custom report builder | Elite | $79 |
| Phone and email support | Elite | $79 |
| E-signatures per user a month | 3 on Essential, 5 on Growth, 45 on Elite | Unlimited only on Enterprise |
Two practical readings. A solo who bills hourly and holds retainers can live on Essential, though three e-signatures a month runs out after one busy week of engagement letters. A firm that markets for new clients ends up on Elite, because intake forms and lead management are not available below it. The page also contradicts itself in small ways: the mobile app is ticked for Essential while the fine print says it is only for firms with more than one user, and basic data migration is free for Enterprise in one box and for Elite and Enterprise in another. How Lawcus pricing has changed
Lawcus kept the same card for more than five years and then rebuilt it. The entry plan rose $5 a user and the top self serve plan $20, about a third more for a firm that was on Business.
| Captures | What lawcus.com printed, per user a month |
|---|---|
| June to July 2015 | Free in beta, then $15 billed annually or $20 monthly; 30 day trial |
| July 2019 to May 2020 | Standard $39 and Plus $49, billed each month; Enterprise by contact |
| August 2020 to October 2025 | Standard $34, Plus $44, Business $59 annual ($39, $49, $69 monthly); trial cut to 14 days; $349 flat data import |
| April 2026 to today | Essential $39, Growth $59, Elite $79 annual ($49, $69, $89 monthly); Enterprise quoted, 10 user minimum |
That timeline explains the mess on review sites. Techjockey, Software Finder, GoodFirms, SelectHub and Lawyerist still quote "from $34", and SelectHub calls $34 a monthly price when it was always the annual one. Capterra and Software Advice carry the new plan names but only the monthly $49 to $89. One more change worth knowing: from 2020 to 2022 the pricing page promised an "unconditional 14-day money-back guarantee". It is gone, and the current terms say the opposite.
What you pay for beyond the plan
Three lines can land on a Lawcus invoice that are not in the per user price.
Payments. Lawcus Payments is powered by Confido Legal and charges 2.95% on cards and 1% on same day ACH, capped at $30 a transaction, with no monthly fee and surcharging allowed. That ACH cap matters for retainers: a $10,000 deposit costs $30 by ACH and $295 by card. LawPay is available as a separate integration if you already use it.
Two way texting. It is an add-on on every self serve plan at $10 per attorney a month, plus a one time $50 to register a local number or $150 for toll free. Five attorneys texting clients comes to $600 a year and the registration. Firms that already run their calls and texts through a cloud business phone system with its own local and toll free numbers should check whether they need the Lawcus number at all, or only the message history inside the matter.
Data migration. Lawcus no longer prints a migration price. It charged a flat $349 to import from most systems until 2022; today large or customized migrations are "billed separately based on the volume and complexity of the data", and none of it is refundable. Professional services you buy must be used within 60 days (clause 4.2.3).
What the Lawcus terms say about renewal and leaving
| Clause | What it says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 2.1 | Fees follow the schedule on the website, which Lawcus may change on notice; no notice period stated | Ask for the rate to be held for the term |
| 4.2.2 | Strict no refund policy, including data migration and remaining subscription time | Run the trial hard before paying for a year |
| 4.2.4 | Removing users gives a credit, not a refund; credits expire after 12 months and are lost on termination | Buy seats for the people you have now |
| 10.1.2 | Auto renews for the same period unless cancelled 7 days ahead; data kept 30 days after termination; later transfers billed up front | Export before you cancel, not after |
| 10.2.2.3 | Fees more than 30 days overdue allow Lawcus to suspend access to your data | Keep a card on file that will not lapse |
| 12.5 | California law, San Francisco courts, arbitration preferred | Note it if your firm is outside California |
The seven day cancellation window is short and friendly next to the 30 to 90 day notice windows in most practice management contracts. The weak spot is the exit: 30 days to pull your data, and a paid transfer after that.
Lawcus vs Clio, MyCase and PracticePanther on price
| Product | Published price per user a month, annual | Five users, top published tier, a year |
|---|---|---|
| Lawcus | $39 / $59 / $79 | $4,740 on Elite |
| Clio | From $49; higher plans quoted | No published top tier |
| MyCase | $50 / $100 / $130 | $7,800 on Advanced |
| PracticePanther | $49 / $69 / $89 / $114 | $6,840 on Business Pro |
| CosmoLex | $49 / $99 / $129 | $7,740 on Pro |
| CaseAgent | Per firm, not per user: Firm $199 a month yearly, up to 5 users | $2,388; not a billing or trust accounting system |
On published prices Lawcus is the cheapest full practice management suite at every tier we could price. The trade is scale: it is a small, independent San Diego company, its integration list is shorter than Clio's, and phone support starts on Elite. For the wider field, our legal practice management software comparison covers the rest, and if billing is the main job, start with the legal billing software chart.
Lawcus pricing, other questions
Does Lawcus have a free trial?
Yes. The Lawcus homepage offers a 14 day trial. The pricing page no longer states the length, but its FAQ says Lawcus will extend a trial if you ask. Clause 10.1.1 of the terms says billing starts the day you add payment details, and from then on the trial is treated as a regular subscription.
Is Lawcus cheaper than Clio?
At the entry level, yes. Lawcus Essential is $39 per user per month billed annually, while Clio prints only one figure, plans starting at $49 per user per month. Above that a list to list comparison is impossible, because Clio no longer publishes prices for Core, Signature or Elite. Lawcus Elite at $79 is also below MyCase Advanced at $130 and PracticePanther Business Pro at $114.
Can I get a refund from Lawcus?
No. The pricing page says Lawcus keeps a strict no refund policy, and clause 4.2.2 of its terms extends it to data migration and any remaining subscription time. If you cancel you are not charged again, but nothing already paid comes back. Removing a user mid term earns a credit that expires after 12 months, not a refund.
Which Lawcus plan includes a client portal?
Growth, at $59 per user per month billed annually. Essential has case management, billing and trust accounting but no client portal. Growth also adds the QuickBooks and Xero integration, custom invoice templates and LEDES codes. Intake forms, lead management, workflow automation, Zapier and API access start one tier higher, on Elite at $79.
Does Lawcus integrate with QuickBooks?
Yes, from the Growth plan up. The Lawcus pricing matrix lists the QuickBooks and Xero integration on Growth, Elite and Enterprise, not on Essential, and the integrations page lists both alongside LawPay, Zapier, Gmail, Outlook and Microsoft 365. Zapier itself is an Elite feature.
A Kanban board shows where each matter sits. It does not read the documents in it, draft the response or notice the deadline in the order that arrived this morning, and that is where most of a small firm's unbilled hours go. That is the part CaseAgent does, inside the matter, at one price for the whole firm.
One price for the whole firm
Put an agent to work on your next matter
CaseAgent reads each file, drafts letters, pleadings and discovery responses, builds chronologies with citations back to the page and keeps court deadlines current. Solo $149 a month, Firm $399 for up to 5 users, Practice $899 for up to 15, or $74, $199 and $449 a month billed yearly, with no setup fee and no per user charge.
