PCLaw Pricing and Time Matters Pricing for Firms Facing an AMP Renewal
PCLaw and Time Matters have no published price. You pay a quoted AMP membership per user, which consultants reported at $39 a month in 2020 and $89 a month in 2022, and the AMP is mandatory for updates and support. Monthly AMPs renew for 12 months unless you give written notice 30 days before the term ends, and nothing paid is refunded.

The $89 default is the May 2022 consultant figure. Replace it with the rate on your last AMP invoice.
Staying, per year
True up to reinstate, estimate
Last day for notice
Written notice at least 30 days before the term ends, or it renews for 12 months.
Year one for the same users, at each vendor's published price
Subscriptions only, billed yearly, before migration and training. CaseAgent is case work, not billing or trust accounting.
You are pricing a membership, not a license
Most PCLaw and Time Matters firms bought their licenses years ago. The number that matters now is the AMP, the yearly support and upgrade plan, because the vendor makes it mandatory for updates and support and charges every missed month back if you let it lapse and return.
That makes the renewal a real decision with three honest answers. Keep paying the AMP and run the software you know. Pay a host on top of it to get remote access. Or move, to LEAP, which shares the joint venture with LexisNexis, or to a cloud suite with a printed price.
- Windows 11 or Windows Server only; Time Matters on SQL Server 2019 to 2025.
- Still shipping: Time Matters 2026 in May, PCLaw 2026 in September.
- The vendor's cloud answer is LEAP, which publishes no US price.

Two timekeepers $195, five $295, ten $580, one time. Phone support $130 a year. PCLawPro from $1,795 for ten timekeepers.
-
2005 to 2006
$250 a user, Time Matters $350
PCLaw $250 per user, "one time license fees". Time Matters 7.0 Professional $350 first user, $200 more; Enterprise on SQL $700 and $400.
-
2008
PCLaw 9.0, $400 and $300
LexisNexis store: $400 first user, $300 each added user, or $615 and $340 with the first year of maintenance. The last printed vendor price.

2019 to 2020
Joint venture, AMP $39
LexisNexis and LEAP form PCLaw | Time Matters LLC in June 2019. In November 2020 consultants report the AMP at $39 a user a month, or $468 a year, Billing Matters included.
-
2022 to 2026
Reported $89, then nothing printed
May 2022: a consultant reports the AMP rising to $89 a user a month, with 60 days notice to customers. Today every product page ends in a quote form.
The "$39 per user per month" on Software Advice, GetApp, ITQlick, Software Finder and most review sites matches the November 2020 AMP rate, with no source cited. SelectHub's $179 and ITQlick's $49.95 have no source either. Neither $89 figure nor any 2026 rate appears on the vendor's site, so treat the 2022 number as the most recent public signal, not a quote.

Four ways through a PCLaw renewal, priced
Road 1
Renew the AMP on your server
$8,544 a year
8 x $89 x 12. You also carry the Windows server, SQL Server and backups. Windows 10 is no longer supported by the vendor.
Road 2
Renew and host it
$23,424 a year
AMP plus Uptime Legal at $155 a user a month for 6 to 14 users, before its setup fee. Remote access, still the same desktop software.
Road 3
Let the AMP lapse
$0 now
No updates, no support, and AMP only features stop. Coming back later means paying every lapsed month plus the current price. PCLaw 2025 loses support in December 2027.
Road 4
Move to the cloud
$12,384 CosmoLex Pro, a year
8 x $129 x 12, with a general ledger. MyCase Pro $9,600, PracticePanther Business $8,544. LEAP is quoted. Migration is extra on every one.
Road 1 looks cheapest because the license was paid years ago, and at $89 it costs the same as a mid tier cloud subscription. Road 3 is the one firms drift into. It saves money only if you never plan to upgrade again, because the true up bills the gap. For LEAP's own contract terms, including its 36 month default term, see our LEAP legal software pricing page.
AMP Membership Agreement, Subscription License Agreement and Software Refund Policy
What the PCLaw | Time Matters agreements say about cost
| Clause | What it says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| AMP 1.3 | Support is mandatory for updates and support; a lapsed customer must pay outstanding AMP fees in full plus the current AMP price; new software only with an AMP | Decide before a lapse, not after it |
| AMP 9 | Monthly payers renew automatically for 12 months unless written notice arrives 30 days before the term's last day | Put the notice date in the firm calendar |
| License 16.4 | The renewal fee may be adjusted at the company's sole discretion on 30 days written notice | Ask for the renewal rate before the notice date |
| License 19.3 | The company may end the agreement at any time on written notice, without liability | Keep a current export of your data |
| Refund policy | License refund only within 30 days and before registration; AMP fees not refundable for any reason | Never prepay a year you may not use |
| Refund policy | Buying AMPs for fewer users than you are licensed for permanently reduces the license | Count users carefully before trimming seats |
| AMP 11 | Invoices due in 30 days; 1.5% a month late charge plus collection costs | Budget the renewal invoice, not just the rate |
Annual payers are not auto renewed under clause 9; they "may renew". Both agreements are governed by New York law, and an order placed offline can be cancelled by written notice within ten calendar days. Neither agreement has a data return clause, which matters less on premises because your database sits on your own server, and more if you are on a subscription license that consultants report turns read only when it expires.
Each provider's and vendor's own printed price

Renewal checklist
Six things to settle before your AMP renewal date
01
The renewal rate, in writing
Clause 16.4 needs only 30 days notice of a new fee. Ask for the number before your own notice date.
02
Your user count
Fewer AMPs than licenses shrinks the license for good. Count timekeepers and staff before cutting seats.
03
The notice date
Term end minus 30 days, in writing, if you pay monthly. Miss it and you are in for 12 more months.
04
Your Windows and Office versions
PCLaw 2026 needs Windows 11 or Server 2016 or later and 32 bit Office 2021, 2024 or 365. Price the hardware into Road 1.
05
A LEAP quote as a number
LEAP prints no price. Ask for the monthly amount, upfront data transition fee and term length on an order form.
06
One quote that is not LEAP
A firm moving off a server has more leverage now than at any other point. Spend it on two vendors, not one.
If the migration itself is the worry, our guide to cloud based legal software for PCLaw and Time Matters firms covers the five things that usually break: trust ledgers, unbilled time, open invoices, document links and custom fields.
Answered first, then explained
PCLaw and Time Matters pricing questions firms ask
How much does PCLaw cost?
PCLaw has no published price. Every product page on pclawtimematters.com ends in a quote form, and first time orders must be bought together with an AMP membership, the yearly support plan. The $39 per user a month on review sites is the rate consultants reported in November 2020; a consultant reported an increase to $89 per user a month in May 2022.
How much does Time Matters cost?
Time Matters is also quote only. In November 2020 a PCLaw | Time Matters consultant reported the Time Matters AMP at $39 per user a month or $468 a year, with Billing Matters included at no extra cost. In May 2022 another consultant reported the AMP rising to $89 per user a month. The last printed list, for version 7.0 in 2006, was $350 for the first user and $200 for each additional one.
What is the PCLaw AMP and is it mandatory?
AMP, short for AMP Membership and formerly the Annual Maintenance Plan, is the support and upgrade plan for PCLaw, Time Matters and Billing Matters. Clause 1.3 of the current AMP Membership Agreement is headed Support is Mandatory: you need an active AMP to receive updated software and technical support, and new software orders can only be placed with one.
What happens if my PCLaw AMP lapses?
Your software keeps running, but updates and support stop, and some features such as client intake, document sharing and LawToolBox docketing require AMP. To come back, clause 1.3 makes you do an AMP True Up: pay the outstanding AMP fees for the lapsed period in full plus the current AMP price. Consultants have reported firms finding it cheaper to buy the software again.
Can I cancel my PCLaw or Time Matters subscription?
Yes, at the end of a term. Monthly payers renew automatically for 12 months unless they give written notice at least 30 days before the last day of the current term (AMP Agreement clause 9 and Subscription License Agreement 19.2). AMP fees are not refundable for any reason, and the company can change the renewal fee on 30 days written notice (clause 16.4).
Is PCLaw being discontinued?
No. PCLaw 2026 release notes are dated September 2026, Time Matters 2026 shipped in May 2026 with support to December 2028, and the vendor says it will continue to offer on premises software. Older versions do lose support on a schedule: PCLaw 2025 and PCLaw Enterprise 2025 are supported to December 2027. The vendor recommends LEAP for firms that want the cloud.
Is there a cloud version of PCLaw?
No. PCLaw and Time Matters are Windows software for your own server or a hosting provider; the vendor does not run a cloud edition. Its cloud answer is LEAP, the joint venture partner. Hosting providers run your licensed copy on a remote server, but PCLaw does not support Citrix or VMware, so check that a host uses Remote Desktop.
How much does it cost to host PCLaw in the cloud?
Uptime Legal, the first LexisNexis authorized hosting provider, prints $195 per user a month for 3 to 5 users, $155 for 6 to 14, $135 for 15 to 50 and $125 above that, plus a one time setup fee, and not including the PCLaw license or AMP. Apps4Rent and EEZYCLOUD sell cheaper virtual desktops where you bring your own license.
Who owns PCLaw and Time Matters?
PCLaw | Time Matters LLC, a joint venture of LexisNexis and LEAP Legal Software that closed on June 5, 2019. The announcement said it would provide product enhancements, improved support for the on premise products, and a simple migration path to LEAP cloud software. The company is based in Apex, North Carolina, and its agreements are governed by New York law.
What is the best alternative to PCLaw?
For a firm that uses PCLaw as its books, CosmoLex Pro is the closest cloud match, with trust and business accounting and a general ledger at $129 per user a month billed yearly. LEAP has the vendor sanctioned migration but no published price. MyCase, PracticePanther and Clio suit firms whose accounting can move to QuickBooks. Time Matters firms that relied on document assembly often look at Smokeball.
Case work in the browser, with a printed price and no server
Whatever keeps your books, CaseAgent reads the case file, drafts letters, pleadings and discovery responses, and keeps every court deadline current. Solo $149 a month, Firm $399 for up to 5 users, Practice $899 for up to 15, or $74, $199 and $449 a month billed yearly. No setup fee and no per user charge.
