CARET Legal Pricing and Cost per User, Plus the Contract You Cannot Cancel
CARET Legal, the practice management system that used to be Zola Suite, costs $79 per user a month on Enterprise, $99 on Enterprise Plus and $119 on Enterprise Insights, billed annually, plus a one time implementation fee it does not publish. The price is only half the decision. Its terms do not let a firm cancel for convenience, fees can rise every year even mid-term, and a missed 60 day notice renews the whole term again.

CARET Legal prints its prices, the directories just have not noticed
Lawyerist, the LawNext directory and Software Advice all tell you to call for a CARET Legal quote. The vendor itself prints three per user prices on caretlegal.com/pricing and has done since 2023. What it does not print is the implementation fee, the term length or the price after year one, and those three numbers decide the real cost.
Every plan includes billing, accounting with trust, LEDES invoicing, built-in email, calendaring, a client portal, integrated payments and phone support. The upgrades are about analytics, automation and documents.

The contracting party is Abacus Data Systems, Inc., doing business as CARET, which also sells Amicus Attorney and AbacusLaw. The order sets your term; the Terms of Service set everything that happens around it.

The terms contain no clause on exporting or returning your data. Two Software Advice reviews from December 2025 and February 2026 describe a refused switch from annual to month to month billing and an extra billed month during off-boarding. Put a written export commitment, in a named format, into the order.

From Zola Suite at $59 to CARET Legal at $79 and up
A Zola Suite firm that signed in 2019 paid $59 per user billed annually. The same entry product is now $79, and the plan CARET labels most popular is $99. In 2017 Zola printed "prices for plan guaranteed not to increase for the lifetime of your account"; the current terms allow an increase every year.
That history is why directories disagree. Some still carry Zola era figures, others say quote only, and none quotes the current page. If you are renewing a Zola or early CARET contract, price the renewal against today's list, not your old invoice.

CARET sells three practice management products from one pricing page, and only CARET Legal gets a number. For Amicus Attorney and AbacusLaw the page says to contact CARET for a custom quote, and abacuslaw.com now redirects there.

All three ride on the same Terms of Service. An Amicus or AbacusLaw firm offered a move to CARET Legal should price the new order at the list rates above and check the term, because the cloud subscription replaces a license the firm may already own outright. CARET Legal vs practice management with billing and trust, 10 users
Ten users on Enterprise Plus cost $11,880 a year, $35,640 over three, before the implementation fee. That puts CARET Legal in the middle of the field on price and near the top on accounting depth: trust, a general ledger and LEDES are in the entry plan, where MyCase charges for an accounting add-on and PracticePanther keeps full accounting for Business Pro.
The difference is the contract. Clio also bills the rest of a term if you cancel mid-way, but lets you remove seats at renewal. CARET charges the unpaid balance even for a downgrade and can raise fees during the term. If your headcount may fall, that is worth more than the $10 to $20 per user gap.

CARET Legal pricing questions buyers ask
How much does CARET Legal cost?
CARET Legal costs $79 per user per month on Enterprise, $99 on Enterprise Plus and $119 on Enterprise Insights, all billed annually, according to the CARET Legal pricing page. A one time implementation fee is added to every plan and its amount is not published. Premium Support is an extra with a 25 user minimum.
Is CARET Legal the same as Zola Suite?
Yes. CARET Legal is the renamed Zola Suite. The Amicus Attorney pricing page listed Zola Suite at $59 per user a month in May 2022 and the same product under the CARET Legal name in June 2023. Zola Suite Core was $59 billed annually until early 2023, so a renewing Zola customer should expect a different price.
Can I cancel CARET Legal before my contract ends?
Not without paying for the rest of it. Paragraph 15 of the CARET Legal Terms of Service says the client may not terminate for any reason other than an uncured material breach. Ending early or downgrading for any other reason triggers an Early Termination Fee equal to the remaining unpaid portion of the payment for the term.
How do I stop CARET Legal from renewing?
Send written notice at least 60 days before the term ends, to the notice address in the Terms of Service. Paragraph 11 says an annual order that is not cancelled in time renews automatically for the longer of the original initial term or 12 months, so missing the date on a three year order commits you to three more years.
Can CARET Legal raise its price during my contract?
Yes. Paragraph 11 says fees in an order may be increased annually at the sole discretion of CARET, including during the initial term, and paragraph 2 allows new or higher fees on 30 days notice for costs such as cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence. Ask for a written cap on increases before you sign.
What is the CARET Legal implementation fee?
CARET Legal does not publish it. The pricing page says pricing is per user plus one time implementation fees and describes implementation packages based on the needs of the firm. A 2024 capture of the same page said every package included 6 hours of training and additional hours cost $250 an hour. Get the fee itemized on the order.
How much does Amicus Attorney cost?
Amicus Attorney is quote only. Its pricing page, which also covers AbacusLaw and CARET Legal, asks you to contact CARET for a custom quote. The last published figure was for Amicus Cloud, starting at $49 per user a month billed annually or $59 monthly, in 2020 and 2021 captures. No Amicus desktop license price has been published.
How much does AbacusLaw cost?
AbacusLaw has no published price. The abacuslaw.com address now redirects to the shared CARET pricing page, which asks for a custom quote for AbacusLaw, Amicus Attorney and CARET Legal alike. Older AbacusLaw pricing pages also carried no dollar figures, so every AbacusLaw price you see online is an estimate.
Does CARET Legal have trust accounting?
Yes. CARET Legal lists three way reconciliation reporting on trust accounts, batch application of trust funds, checks drawn from trust and matter to matter trust transfers, along with a general ledger, profit and loss, balance sheet and trial balance. Billing and accounting are in the base Enterprise plan; department based accounting starts at Enterprise Plus.
Does CARET Legal integrate with QuickBooks?
Yes, with QuickBooks Online. CARET Legal says you can approve, edit or delete invoices in CARET Legal and sync those changes to your QuickBooks account automatically. Because CARET Legal also has its own general ledger, decide which system holds the books before you pay for both.
