Amicus Attorney Pricing and AbacusLaw Pricing in 2026

Amicus Attorney and AbacusLaw are both quote only. Their shared pricing page has a Request Pricing button and no numbers. The last published prices were $77 per user a month for the Amicus Premium subscription and $49 a user a month yearly for Amicus Cloud, and the owner, CARET, prints only its newer CARET Legal at $79 to $119 a user. The contract, not the seat price, is where the cost hides.

Amicus and AbacusLaw keep the calendar, contacts and matter list. CaseAgent reads the documents in the matter, builds the chronology with page citations, drafts the response and checks the deadlines, at one price for the whole firm. Pick a sample file and watch it work.

Every figure here is from a vendor page or a dated document: the live amicusattorney.com and caretlegal.com pricing pages, Wayback Machine captures of both since 2013, the CARET Software Terms (last updated August 29, 2025) and the Abacus Private Cloud terms (March 30, 2026), plus two dated outside sources we name where we use them. We build CaseAgent, which does case work rather than replace a practice system, and we price our own product next to the alternatives at the end.

How much does Amicus Attorney cost?

There is no number to read. amicusattorney.com/pricing shows three products side by side, AbacusLaw, Amicus Attorney and CARET Legal, with "Request Pricing" under each and a promise of a custom quote. It has looked like that since 2022; in 2020 and 2021 the same page said "Call for pricing" for the desktop products. So the useful question is what Amicus cost the last time anyone wrote it down, and what the contract you will sign does to that number.

CARET Legal (the cloud product CARET sells)$79 / $99 / $119 per user a month yearly, plus implementationcaretlegal.com/pricing, live

The $77 is the figure to bring to a call. When Abacus took over Amicus in 2016 it moved Premium from a license to a monthly per user subscription, and Crosspointe, an Amicus consultancy, reported the rate and the trigger: adding a Premium user or upgrading versions moved every user in the firm onto the subscription. Ten years of price changes later, treat it as a floor, not a quote. For scale, CARET's own cloud product starts at $79 a user.

How much does AbacusLaw cost?

AbacusLaw has the same answer, because it no longer has its own pricing page: abacuslaw.com/pricing redirects to the Amicus page above. The last numbers the company printed were an entry offer of $42 a month in 2013 and "from just $77 a month per user" in 2016, the same $77 Amicus Premium moved to that year. We found no dated source for AbacusLaw Gold, the edition with accounting, or for a per user license price, so anyone quoting one is guessing.

The numbers on review sites do not trace back to a vendor page. TrustRadius shows Amicus Cloud at $49, which is the 2020 and 2021 yearly rate for a product no longer on the price list. ITQlick's $50 a user is labeled an estimate. A widely copied $69.99 for AbacusLaw and $250 to $300 a user for Abacus Private Cloud come from a review page that now returns a 404, with no source we could find.

Hosting is its own contract. Abacus Private Cloud has no printed per user price, but its terms do print the extras: $25 a month for each additional static IP, a Microsoft 365 E3 license for every Standard, Power and Flex user, storage beyond 1 TB of documents billed at the then current rate when you pass 90 percent, and migration help billed by the hour. If you host anywhere else, read the next section first.

What the CARET terms do to your renewal

Abacus Data Systems has traded as CARET since February 2023. Its Software Terms govern every CARET subscription except CARET Legal and the hosting products, so they are the contract for an on premises AbacusLaw or Amicus Attorney order. Seven clauses do most of the pricing.

CARET Software Terms clauses that change what AbacusLaw and Amicus Attorney cost
Clause What it says What it costs you
Legacy licensesSigning an order ends any license for prior versions, "including legacy or perpetual licenses"The perpetual license you paid for is gone the day you subscribe
Price changesFees may rise annually at CARET's discretion, during the initial term too, and other fees on 30 days noticeA three year order is not a three year price
RenewalRenews for the greater of the first term or 12 months unless written notice 60 days before the endMiss the date and you buy another year at least
Leaving earlyEarly termination fee equals the remaining unpaid portion; downgrading counts as terminationCutting seats mid term costs the same as keeping them
RefundsAll payments are non-refundable, paid in advance by ACH or cardNo credit for months you do not use
HostingRunning the software over RDS, Citrix or any cloud without permission raises fees to list price per user, backdated to the start of the termYour outside IT host can trigger a back bill
Old versions and dataNo support for versions over 12 months old; data deleted 30 days after the subscription endsExport before the term ends, not after

The 60 day notice is the clause that costs firms the most, because the date falls two months before anything feels urgent. Write it down the day you sign, or keep it with the rest of your vendor agreements in a tool built for contract renewal tracking, so the decision to renew, renegotiate or leave is yours rather than the calendar's. Only Flex users escape the term: they can be cancelled on 30 days notice with no fee, which makes them the right seat type for staff you are not sure you will keep.

CARET Legal runs on its own terms, and they are no gentler: no termination for convenience, the same 60 day renewal window and data deleted 30 days after the term. We traced those clauses, the implementation fee and a ten user three year cost on our CARET Legal pricing page, with a checker for the early termination fee.

Is Amicus Cloud being discontinued?

No end of life date has been published, but every signal points one way. Amicus Cloud dropped off the pricing page in 2022, replaced by Zola Suite, which became CARET Legal in 2023. Since December 2023 the Amicus Cloud product page redirects to a CARET Legal article on cloud data migration. CARET also runs an "Amicus Cloud vs. CARET Legal" page, updated in June 2026, that opens "We know switching platforms isn't something you planned for" and ends with "Start Your Transition to CARET Legal".

Amicus Attorney on the desktop is different. CARET published feature highlights for version 25.15 in July 2025, so the Windows product is still being developed, and AbacusLaw is still offered with a demo button. If your firm is on either, the realistic choices at renewal are three: renew the desktop product on CARET's terms, accept the move to CARET Legal at $79 to $119 a user plus implementation, or take the data somewhere else.

Amicus Attorney vs the cloud alternatives on price

Here is what a firm leaving Amicus or AbacusLaw can actually see in print. Every number is from the vendor's own page; we wrote up each one in full.

Firms on other legacy desktop systems face the same decision with different contracts: our PCLaw and Time Matters pricing page covers the AMP renewal, and Tabs3 pricing covers a vendor that still sells both an on premises and a cloud version. For every vendor in one table, including the ones that only quote, see the full case management software pricing list.

Amicus Attorney and AbacusLaw pricing, other questions

Who owns Amicus Attorney and AbacusLaw?

Both belong to Abacus Data Systems, Inc., which trades as CARET. Abacus bought Amicus Attorney from Toronto based Gavel and Gown Software in May 2016, traded for years as AbacusNext, and rebranded as CARET in February 2023, when Zola Suite became CARET Legal. The same terms of service now cover AbacusLaw and Amicus subscriptions.

Can I keep my perpetual Amicus or AbacusLaw license?

Only until you sign a new order. The CARET Software Terms say any license for prior versions, "including legacy or perpetual licenses", terminates when you sign the applicable order. Support also excludes versions released more than 12 months before your request, so an old perpetual install slowly loses help even if it keeps running.

Does Abacus Private Cloud cost extra?

Yes. Abacus Private Cloud is a separate hosting contract with no printed per user price; a 2016 chart said it started at $197 a month. Its terms add $25 a month per extra static IP, require each Standard, Power and Flex user to also buy a Microsoft 365 E3 license, and bill extra storage at the then current rate.

Can I cancel an AbacusLaw or Amicus subscription early?

Not without paying the rest. The CARET Software Terms charge an early termination fee equal to the remaining unpaid portion of the term, and downgrading counts as termination. Payments are non-refundable, the term renews for the greater of the original term or 12 months unless you give written notice 60 days before it ends, and only Flex users can be cut on 30 days notice.

Whichever system keeps your matters, the hours that hurt are the ones spent reading a new production, rebuilding a timeline and drafting the first response. That work does not change when the software does. CaseAgent does it inside the case file at one price for the firm, so a practice system renewal and the case work stop being the same budget line.
